UMR Applauds House & Senate Labor-HHS Appropriators for Boosting NIH Budget and Maintaining Upward Momentum

June 27, 2018

UMR released the following statement today from UMR President Alex Currie:

“United for Medical Research is grateful for the continued support from House and Senate appropriators for strong National Institutes of Health funding.  We are particularly thankful for the bipartisan, bicameral leadership of Chairmen Roy Blunt and Tom Cole and Ranking Members Patty Murray and Rosa DeLauro. Because of their unwavering commitment to medical research – and the patients and families who benefit – the NIH budget is beginning to rebound from years of under-funding and appears to be on a course of solid, sustainable annual increases in FY2019.  These increases to NIH research funding also will help create jobs, spur economic activity and preserve our standing as the world’s leader in biomedical research.

“We look forward to working with these leaders, the appropriations committees and the entire Congress to ensure that investing in NIH research and the pursuit of cures remains a national priority.”
