This statement can be attributed to United for Medical Research President Alex Currie:
“The two-year budget agreement reached by the White House and congressional leaders is very welcome news, and United for Medical Research applauds their critical efforts that will greatly impact the National Institutes of Health and the entire biomedical research community.
“Funding for NIH has become a bipartisan and bicameral national priority because biomedical research addresses our nation’s most devastating and costly illnesses, and preserves our standing as the world’s leader in life sciences. This deal will allow House and Senate Appropriations Committee leaders to continue this invaluable momentum next year, and we urge them to do so.
“United for Medical Research commends the leadership shown by President Trump, Speaker Pelosi, and Leaders McConnell, Schumer and McCarthy, and we look forward to working with all members of Congress and the Administration to pass into law the Fiscal Year 2020 Labor-HHS Appropriations legislation.”
United for Medical Research is a coalition of leading scientific research institutions and industries, and patient and health advocates that have joined together to seek steady increases in funding for the National Institutes of Health.
