Dec. 7 – “United for Medical Research commends the Senate and the House for their overwhelming and bipartisan passage of the 21st Century Cures Act, and we look forward to President Obama’s swift enactment of this landmark bill.
“The 21st Century Cures Act will make a difference in the life of every American. By providing important funding for the National Institutes of Health that goes beyond the annual appropriations process, this legislation provides a critical boost to an agency that was flat-funded for more than a decade. NIH research fuels the pipeline of discovery and innovation necessary to prevent, treat and cure our most vexing diseases. NIH research also has a significant economic impact, supporting more than 350,000 jobs across the United States and contributing some $60 billion annually in economic activity.
“UMR commends the leadership of Senators Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray and Representatives Fred Upton and Diana DeGette for forging this legislation and working tirelessly for its passage.”
