The following can be attributed to United for Medical Research:
We are very encouraged by the bipartisan budget deal that emerged yesterday. It provides much needed breathing room for critical discretionary programs – like medical research – that have been squeezed by the budget caps and sequestration. It is a down payment on the longer term goal of ensuring that the budget for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) catches up from the past decade of under-funding and keeps up with future scientific and public health needs and opportunities. We urge Congress to move quickly to pass this package.
UMR looks forward to working with the bipartisan majorities in Congress who support greater investment in medical research to ensure that the ultimate FY16 spending bill strengthens funding for the NIH and, that we continue working toward a funding solution that ensures a pathway for long-term sustainable growth for the NIH.
